Roads were dry during Wednesday’s morning commute, but the drive home could be a wet one, as a slow-moving front pushes showers and thunderstorms into metro Atlanta from the west.

The National Weather Service said isolated severe storms are possible, with damaging winds and heavy downpours the primary threats.

The rain and storms should arrive after 11 a.m., the Weather Service said.

At 9:30 a.m., radar showed a few patches of light rain moving into the northwest corner of the state, with the bulk of the rain still in central Alabama.

Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said the chance of rain is 70 percent Wednesday, diminishing slightly to 60 percent Thursday.

Highs will be in the upper 80s both days, with lows Thursday morning in the low 70s.

Nitz’s extended forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of rain Friday through Sunday, with highs of 89 Friday, 90 Saturday and 91 Sunday and lows around 70 degrees.

Atlanta’s normal high for this part of July is 89, and the normal low is 71.
