A pride event in Norcross will be postponed, following the cancelation of other LGBTQ+ celebrations in metro Atlanta amid rising COVID-19 cases.

The Visibility Club, a social organization aimed at increasing LGBTQ+ presence in the suburbs, announced this week that it will hold off on hosting its annual Gwinnett Pride event previously scheduled for Sept. 4. Social media users agreed with the decision and left encouraging comments on the group’s Facebook page.

“While we understand that our community desperately needs an event like Gwinnett Pride, there is a time to push the boundaries and then there is a time to admit that the wellbeing of the majority supersedes any other need,” said Visibility Club President Ronaldo Guzman in a statement.

New potential dates for the Norcross event will be announced in the future. Last week, the Atlanta Pride Committee canceled its annual October event for the second year in a row. The Atlanta Black Pride celebration is still on for Labor Day weekend, but it will be scaled back from previous years.
