The Gwinnett County SWAT team responded to a home and a Snellville man was arrested overnight, after a woman told police her husband attacked her with a hatchet and he reportedly shot arrows at officers.
Thomas Burt, 28, was arrested early Thursday morning on four counts of aggravated assault. Police were called to a home in the 3900 block of Laurel Tree Court, in unincorporated Snellville, about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect’s wife told police her husband was threatening to shoot her with a bow and arrow, and he’d already attacked her with a hatchet.
For more than two hours police tried to convince Burt to exit the house, but he refused and made “multiple threats against officers at the scene,” according to a news release. Shortly after midnight, police said Burt shot an arrow out of the front door, which grazed the face of one of the responding officers.
The officer was not seriously injured, but the Gwinnett County police SWAT team was activated, and a few minutes later, police said, Burt launched another arrow, which hit a patrol car.
Burt finally came out of the house about 12:52 a.m., according to the release, and was arrested without further incident. He is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center, without a bond. Burt’s wife was treated on the scene by emergency medical technicians for an injury to her hand.
