A photograph of an Alabama middle school student allegedly holding a gun in a school bathroom is the subject of an investigation by school officials and police in Mobile, WKRG reported.

The photo, posted Thursday on Facebook, depicts three male students dressed in school uniform at Chastang-Fournier K-8 School, WPMI reported. The student standing in the middle is pointing a gun, the television Rena Phillips, spokeswoman for Mobile County Public Schools, said the student holding the gun in the photograph "is no longer a student in Mobile County Public Schools," WKRG reported.

“We were recently made aware of the social media post and we are investigating the matter with the Mobile Police Department,” Phillips told the television station.

Police said they confirmed that the picture is at least a month old, and the student holding the gun is being detained. He does not pose a threat to the school, WPMI reported.

Police said they also interviewed the other students in the photograph, the television station reported.
