After year, Roswell’s revamped library set to re-open after New Year’s

The re-opening may have been pushed back a year, but Roswell’s library at 115 Norcross St. is finally ready to start a new chapter.

The library is set to re-open Jan. 3, 2020, according to the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.

Its revamp cost more than $4.7 million and was part of the county’s $275 million effort program to build nine libraries and renovate 23 others.

Voters in 2008 approved the program, which is by far the most expensive library construction program in Georgia history.

Roswell’s Norcross Street location closed in August 2018 with plans to re-open in February 2019. But just a month later, in September 2018, Fulton County commissioners requested the library be made more accessible from the street. So architects added a concrete sidewalk from Norcross Street to the building and a porch seating area on each side of the entrance.

As part of the original plan, the Roswell library will have an upgraded HVAC systems, a fresh layout, new shelving, updated bathrooms, new lighting and expanded rooms.

For those who want to be the first to see the new space, the Jan. 3 grand opening begins at 10 a.m. with light refreshments and tours.
