DeKalb County School District officials said today its 23 high schools received the highest rating from the Georgia Accrediting Commission, having met 100 percent of the commission’s standards.
According to a district press release, the schools received the designation “Accredited with Quality.”
The school district submitted an application for the 23 schools in November. The GAC conducted site visits in January, with a team of consultants visiting each school. Each was evaluated based on four standards: organization, personnel, finances and programs of study, based on interviews with principals and documentation from the schools.
“The GAC assessment was extensive and affirms the great work that is being done in our high schools,” said DeKalb County School District Superintendent Michael Thurmond. “The scholarship and academic achievements of our students have been validated.”
The DeKalb Board of Education approved the application for GAC accreditation last spring as part of a dual accreditation strategy. The district also is rated as "Accredited on Advisement" by AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which is just below the group's top rating.
