Two people, including a 15-year-old, face murder charges after a teenager was gunned down Thursday afternoon in the breezeway of an Athens apartment building, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. at the Bethel Midtown Village apartments along Hickman Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said. Officers arrived to find 19-year-old Ketorian Cooper lying in the 110 building with a single gunshot wound, police Lt. Shaun Barnett told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The teen was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

Police on Friday announced the arrests of two people in Cooper’s shooting: 21-year-old David Richard and 15-year-old Quatravis Hull, both of Athens. Despite his age, Hull has been charged as an adult in the case, investigators said.

Detectives are still working to determine what led to the shooting and who fired the fatal shot. Police said they believe Cooper was unarmed when he was killed.

“The motive is still under investigation,” Barnett said. “It is believed that the adult suspect and the victim may have known each other. We’re still working to determine which one of the suspects actually fired the shot.”

Richard remained in the Athens-Clarke County Jail on Friday without bond, online records show. Police said Hull was taken to a youth detention center.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective David Harrison at 762-400-7361 or send an email to david.harrison@accgov.com.
