Across most of North Georgia, there is a 10% risk of a tornado developing when a system of strong storms arrives Friday afternoon.

That figure may seem low, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said that’s considered an elevated threat. At any location in the warned area, which includes metro Atlanta, there is a 10% chance a tornado could develop within a radius of 10 to 25 miles.

“Think about what you are going to do if you hear there’s a tornado warning for your neighborhood,” Monahan said. “Always best to think of it now, rather than in the actual moment, so that it becomes automatic and you know where you’re gonna go.”

Rooms without windows on the lowest level of a building are the safest places to ride out tornado-warned storms, experts say.
