As National Nurses Week begins with National Nurses Day on Wednesday, Dunkin’ is providing a sweet treat to the health care professionals who work hard to care for the community every day of the year.

The coffee chain announced late last month that it will provide a free doughnut and medium-sized hot or iced coffee to all health care workers on May 6.

There’s no purchase necessary to obtain the treats, which can be picked up at participating locations while supplies last.

“As a brand with a long heritage of serving those who serve, we appreciate and honor the heroic work and unwavering commitment nurses and healthcare professionals show every day,” said Dave Hoffmann, CEO of Dunkin’ Brands in a press release.

“Their selfless sacrifices inspire all of us to come together to do everything we can to support our communities,” he continued. “We want people on the frontlines to know that we have their backs and they can count on Dunkin’ to help keep them running.”

The offer follows a $200,000 grant given on Pay It Forward Day April 28 to First Descents, which aims to heal through adventurous excursions. Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation and First Descents have teamed up to create the "Hero Recharge" initiative to use adventure-based wellness programs to assist health care professionals who are dealing with major traumatic stress.

Also, Dunkin’ is continuing to support local communities with product deliveries to local hospitals, first responders and emergency sites nationwide. The eatery has provided complimentary coffee, doughnuts and gift cards to more than 300 places.
