Atlanta Public Schools will hold a series of parent meetings over the coming weeks to explain the district’s plan to help students recover academically from pandemic-related disruptions.

The district scheduled 11 virtual meetings, beginning Thursday and continuing into late October.

Superintendent Lisa Herring told board members recently the sessions will help parents understand the district’s new assessment tools. An academic screener will measure students’ literacy and math skills. Another assessment will ask about their social and emotional well-being.

The meetings also will include information about the academic intervention and enrichment blocks that the district added into the school day starting in August.

Specific meetings will be held for the group of schools that feed into each of the district’s high schools. The sessions will start at 5:15 p.m.

The meetings are scheduled as follows:

Thursday: Therrell High School cluster

Sept. 21: Douglass High School cluster

Sept. 23: Carver High School cluster

Sept. 29: Spanish-speaking parents

Sept. 30: North Atlanta High School cluster

Oct. 5: Jackson High School cluster

Oct. 12: Midtown High School cluster

Oct. 14: Washington High School cluster

Oct. 19: South Atlanta High School cluster

Oct. 21: Mays High School cluster
