After 18 years at Lenox Square Mall, Crate & Barrel will pack its crates to move -- across the parking lot.
The flagship Atlanta store – with house wares and furnishings -- is moving to an open air shopping center adjacent to Lenox Square called the Shops Around Lenox.
Healey Weatherholtz Properties and Alex Brown Realty acquired the Shops Around Lenox in 2009, when it was 40 percent occupied. They invested $35 million to reposition the center that used to include CompUSA and Tower Records.
Now tenants include local and national boutiques, such as Tootsie's, lululemon athletica, Paper Source, and Cosabella, DEKA Atlanta, Swank, and Bill Hallman.
"We saw an opportunity to re-conceive what is arguably one of the best seven acres in the Southeast,” said Quill O. Healey II, managing partner for the ownership group.
Crate & Barrel will anchor the center, taking 24,143 square feet. The store is set to open next spring.
In 2008, Crate & Barrel closed its store in Perimeter Mall, saying it was shutting stores without furniture sections. It also added stores nationally that year. It has only two stores in metro Atlanta: the one currently in Lenox Square and one in Alpharetta.
A spokeswoman for Simon Property Group, owner of Lenox Square Mall and nearby Phipps Plaza, did not have an announcement on what would fill the two-story Crate & Barrel space, which anchors one side of the mall.
