Paulding County roadways are dangerous and slick, and it's expected to get worse, the Sheriff's Office said at 5 p.m.

Roads in the western and northern parts of Paulding were the first to cause problems, Cpl. Ashley Henson said. An hour later, roads throughout the county were completely covered in snow and impassable.

Gold Mine, Brushy Mountain and Braswell Mountain roads were early trouble spots, Henson said. The county's DOT director said road conditions are deteriorating and urged people to stay off the roads.

A winter storm warning run through 10 a.m. Thursday for 50 counties, including Paulding. Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for disaster preparedness starting at 2 p.m.

Forecasters warn that the system could bring accumulations from around 2 inches in metro Atlanta to upwards of 6 inches in the mountain counties. Read more of our weather coverage and updates here .
