A dry start will give way to heavy downpours in some areas of metro Atlanta Tuesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Clouds will build up by lunch time, and isolated showers will begin by 3 p.m.

“It’s going to be dry over the next few hours,” meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Areas that get the rain could see heavy downpours, frequent lightning and wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph. That could mean flooded roadways and small branches down.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain in metro Atlanta, with the greater risk in eastern counties including DeKalb and Gwinnett.

The rain, however, won't bring Tuesday's expected high out of the 90s.

Temperatures were 77 degrees in Atlanta, 67 degrees in Blairsville and 72 degrees in Griffin just before 6:15 a.m.
