A Gwinnett County police officer shot a knife-wielding man at a Lawrenceville-area apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, Cpl. Deon Washington said.

Washington said the shooting happened at the Sugar Mill Apartments at 707 Treecreek Parkway, just off Ga. 316 near Walther Boulevard.

Washington said  police responded to a domestic dispute inside a building at the complex and were confronted by a 16-year-old teenager holding a knife.

The teenager moved toward officers and an officer fired a shot, hitting him Washington said.

Police did not confirm the number of shots.

The teenager was taken to the hospital but his condition was unknown, Washington said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was notified and responded to the scene, Washington said.
