A record six Georgia basketball players have been selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American All-Star games on March 29 at the United Center in Chicago.
Georgia’s McDonald’s All-American boys are Wendell Carter of Pace Academy (committed to Duke), Collin Sexton of Pebblebrook (Alabama) and M.J. Walker of Jonesboro (undecided).
The All-American girls are Mikayla Coombs of Wesleyan (UConn), Kasiyahna Kushkituah of St. Francis (Tennessee) and Maya Dodson of St. Francis (Stanford).
‘’It is a distinct honor and a glorious milestone in my basketball career,’’ said Dodson, who was presented with a commemorative jersey Friday at a ceremony at St. Francis. “I grew up watching these games and thinking about how cool it would be to be chosen to play. This is a dream come true.’’
Kushkituah and Dodson are the first Georgia teammates to be selected. St. Francis has won the Class A private-school championship the past two seasons.
‘’Kasi and I have had much success on the high school stage,'' Dodson said. "We have become good friends over the years. To share this honor being her teammate one last time will be a lasting memory.''
Georgia had three boys players in the McDonald’s game in 1991 and three girls players in 2007 and 2013 but never six total.
Former McDonald’s All-Americans include Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Maya Moore.
