Watch out for No. 9 North Cobb Christian. The Eagles improved to 9-7, 5-0 in Region 6, after a 92-67 blowout of Excel Christian of Dalton on Friday. North Cobb Christian started moving the ball better in the third quarter and that helped the Eagles dominate the third quarter after leading by just eight at the half, according to the Marietta Daily Jounal. Nick Fleming was big in the third quarter for North Cobb Christian, scoring 13 points before finishing with 25 points and 10 assists. Chattanooga-bound, 6-foot, 11-inch center Trey Kalina added 28 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks. The Eagles' mediocre overall record is deceiving. The combined record of the teams that have defeated them – including two losses to undefeated Johnson-Gainesville, the No. 2 team in Class AAAAA – is 68-17.
No. 3 Athens Christian (13-0, 3-0 in Region 8) stayed perfect with a 76-40 win over rival Athens Academy on Friday. Seniors Demetrius McWhorter and Will "Turtle" Jackson, a Georgia signee, led the way with 24 and 18 points, respectively.
