State School Superintendent John Barge apparently wants to get out of Georgia.
A finalist for the top education post in Utah, he is now among four finalists for the education commissioner post in Kansas.
But as with Utah where a local educator was chosen, Barge is up against homegrown talent in Kansas. The other three candidates under consideration are all Kansas educators, including the interim education commissioner.
The Kansas State Board of Education will interview candidates Wednesday and Thursday and announce its choice next week.
Upset with the deep cuts to the Georgia schools budget, Barge challenged Gov. Nathan Deal in the GOP primary this year and lost.
Georgia voters will choose Barge's successor tomorrow at the polls.
