A prospect with a most familiar last name has committed to Georgia Tech.
Buford High linebacker T.D. Roof, the son of Tech defensive coordinator Ted Roof, gave his commitment to play for the Yellow Jackets Monday.
“After much consideration with my family and coaches I have decided to commit to The Georgia Institute of Technology,” Roof wrote on his Twitter account.
He’ll be following in his father’s estimable footsteps. Ted Roof played for coach Bill Curry from 1982 to 1985 and as a senior was a co-captain and an All-ACC selection.
247 Sports rates Roof, 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, as a three-star linebacker. He also received offers from Central Florida, South Florida, Indiana and East Carolina. He is the third prospect to commit to being a part of the 2017 class and second in as many days, following Tallahassee lineman Connor Hansen on Sunday.
Roof was named first-team all-state for Class AAAA this past season, helping the Wolves reach the state final.
Roof’s twin brother Mic, a quarterback, recently committed to East Carolina. Mic is a pro-style prospect who would be unsuited for Tech’s spread-option offense.
T.D. will join former Buford teammates already on the Tech roster. Linebacker David Curry is headed into his redshirt freshman season and A-back Xavier Gantt will enroll for his first year in coming weeks.
