Parts of North Georgia will have a shot at rain Wednesday as the region enters its third straight day of above-average temperatures.
The entire region will be mild, but only some neighborhoods will get wet, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Showers are possible Wednesday morning in northwest Georgia, and any rain activity this afternoon should stay to the west of Atlanta, Monahan said.
”For most of us today will be dry, at least during the daylight hours,” he said. “But tomorrow, and into Thursday night and Friday morning, especially from the Northside of the metro into the mountains, this is where we are going to have some heavy rainfall.”
Some neighborhoods north of I-20 could record up to 2 inches of rainfall by the end of the week, according to Channel 2. At least for Wednesday, most of the region will just be contending with increased cloud cover.
With more clouds than sunshine and a slight northeast wind, temperatures are headed for the upper 50s this afternoon, Monahan said. The clouds are also helping to keep the region mild Wednesday morning, and most areas are waking up to temperatures in the 40s.
Monahan is expecting more widespread rain to move in Wednesday night, and some showers could impact the Thursday morning drive on the Northside. Showers are 60% likely Thursday afternoon and should be scattered, but heavy rain is likely heading into Friday morning, he said. Friday is likely to be a washout with a 90% chance of rain and storms.

Atlanta is typically in the mid-50s this time of year. On Thursday, Monahan is expecting temperatures to rise almost 15 degrees above average.
“Even though tomorrow there is a little bit of rain in the forecast, we’re up at almost 70 degrees tomorrow afternoon,” he said. “It is going to be really nice, even between some of those raindrops, and then cooler weather will move in on Friday.”
Monahan said warm air is coming in from the West Coast, and it will really push temperatures up. Just as soon as the warmth arrives, however, it moves right back out. Atlanta will return to the upper 50s for highs Friday and low 50s are in the forecast for the weekend, as well as morning temperatures in the 30s, according to Channel 2.

Pavement is dry as the Wednesday morning drive gets underway, and there are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates, to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Atlanta drivers could experience delays southwest of the city after a pickup truck crashed into a power pole on Benjamin E. Mays Drive. The eastbound lanes are closed, the Traffic Center reported at 6:30 a.m.
“Just use Cascade Road as an alternate avoid any of those brake lights,” traffic reporter Mike Shields said.
Another crash on the Westside was blocking a left lane on Thornton Road and contributing to delays just past I-20, according to the Traffic Center. On the interstate, volume is building and trip times are already clocking in at 18 minutes getting from Ga. 92 to I-285.
