Temperatures are expected to make a 30-degree jump Wednesday with the help of lots of sunshine.
Metro Atlanta is in the 20s and 30s to start the day, but temperatures are headed for the 60s this afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. The region doesn’t typically see that kind of warmth until late February, closer to the start of spring.
“We dress for winter this morning, and then we get that early springlike afternoon later today,” Monahan said.
Wednesday should be “beautiful with lots of sunshine,” he said. North Georgia typically gets about 10.5 hours of daylight this time of year, and all of them will be sunny, according to Channel 2.
The days will only get longer as North Georgia approaches the official start of spring, March 20. Monahan said temperatures are also trending up this week, with low 60s in Thursday’s forecast and mid-60s by Friday.
“It’s that close you can almost touch it,” he said of the change in season. “It’s almost here, but we’ve still got about 6 weeks or so before spring officially arrives.”

Monahan said Thursday and Friday will see some clouds mix in with sunshine, but they will both be nice days. No rain is in the forecast until Sunday, and even then it is only a slight 20% chance of a shower.
“Whether you’ve got time today, whether you’ve got time tomorrow, or maybe you’ve got to wait till Friday to get outside and enjoy the weather, it will be waiting for you,” he said. “It’s going to be nice all the way through the week.”

Despite some early crashes, the Wednesday morning drive is off to a delay-free start, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
All metro Atlanta interstates are moving at the speed limit, even the Downtown Connector, where the northbound lanes were temporarily closed at Langford Parkway to move a construction vehicle. All lanes are now open, and traffic is moving fine in and out of Midtown at 6:30 a.m., the Traffic Center reported.
