Temperatures are expected to near 60 degrees Tuesday as North Georgia’s winning weather streak continues.
After a cold start in the 30s, plenty of sunshine in the forecast should make for a nice warmup, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Like the “picture perfect” weather on Monday afternoon, Monahan said, conditions Tuesday should be more of the same.
“It’s going to be really nice,” he said. “It is cold out there to start. We start with winter, and we finish kind of like an early spring afternoon.”
Tuesday’s projected high is 59, about four degrees above average for this time of year. Typically, temperatures do not reach the 60s until late February. Even warmer weather is in the forecast later this week, when Atlanta could record highs in the 70s, according to Channel 2.
“It’s really going to feel like springtime on Thursday afternoon, up at about 70 degrees,” Monahan said. “That is 15 degrees above average. You’ve got a nice, warm finish to the week to look forward to, and then changes on the weekend.”
With the warmth comes the next chance of rain, however. Monahan said showers are possible in northwest Georgia beginning late Wednesday evening, and metro Atlanta has a 40% chance of scattered showers Thursday. It should not be anything too widespread, he said.
By Thursday night, things will change. Heavy rain and the chance for an isolated storm moves in Friday, Monahan said, and temperatures will return to more seasonable levels. The wet weather should move out by the weekend as North Georgia turns cooler.
Lows on Saturday are expected to be near freezing, according to the latest forecast.

Surface streets are a different story. An injury crash has lanes closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive west of Fulton Industrial Boulevard, the Traffic Center reported at 6:30 a.m. Commuters can expect delays rolling through Atlanta this morning.
In Lawrenceville, authorities are on the scene of a crash in the westbound lanes of Ga. 316 at Cedars Road, according to the Traffic Center. While no lanes are closed, brake lights are building in. Expect additional delays getting into the city, the Traffic Center reported.
