Tuesday will be another day of “wall-to-wall sunshine” for North Georgia, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

It’s cold out there, but conditions are beautiful. After a freezing start, Atlanta is headed for a projected high of 50 degrees. There is no rain in the forecast, and low humidity means not even windshields were frosty Tuesday morning, Monahan said.

“It’s gonna be a gorgeous day. Lots of sunshine,” he said. “We’ll be up near 50. Dress warmly today, but it should be a pretty nice afternoon.”

Despite the frigid weather, there’s a warm glow coming from the direction of Athens as Bulldog fans celebrate a national championship win. Temperatures began the day right at the freezing point in the Classic City, and wind chills were down in the 20s.

“You will not notice the cold, I am willing to bet, Georgia Bulldog fans,” Monahan said.

Nothing but sunshine is in the forecast Tuesday, and Wednesday should see more of the same, he said. Thursday’s forecast carries a slight 10% chance of a shower, but dry conditions return to end the work week. For the weekend, Monahan said there is an elevated risk of some winter weather.

“I know it’s very early in the week to give you this heads up, but the possibility is looking more likely as we head into the weekend,” he said.

According to the latest forecast, Saturday will start dry, but showers will fire up by the afternoon and evening as an area of low pressure develops to the south, and cold air moves in. Rain could turn to wintry mix across metro Atlanta and parts of North Georgia, especially early Sunday morning, Monahan said.

Tuesday's projected high is 50 degrees.
