North Georgia has turned cooler and breezy Tuesday morning on the other side of a cold front.
Temperatures are in the 40s and 50s to start the day, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said a gusty breeze is making it feel even colder outside. It’s a marked change from Monday morning, which saw temperatures in the low 60s.
“It’s jacket weather out there this morning,” Monahan said. “The breeze has picked up. The cooler fall air, it is here — that late October chill in the air for us.”
The wind will gradually die down, he said, and North Georgia is looking at a beautiful day with lots of sunshine. A high of 68 degrees is predicted for Atlanta, according to Channel 2.
“There is rain coming, not today and tomorrow,” Monahan said. “We’re going to be nice and dry across North Georgia, but Thursday some of that rain could be heavy, and showers are going to stick around into Friday and Saturday.”
It will be soggy by Thursday morning as the next round of showers arrives, he said. But with an area of low pressure sticking to the south, Monahan said any strong or severe storms should be kept at bay.
He expects “mainly just a cold rain” for metro Atlanta, and chances are running high Thursday at 90%.
More rain to end the week could make trouble for those hoping to watch the Braves take on the Houston Astros for games 3 and 4 of the World Series. Monahan said Atlanta is “definitely gonna be chilly” on Friday and Saturday, but there is also a moderate chance of a rain delay.
According to the latest forecast, showers are 40% likely Friday and 30% likely Saturday, according to Channel 2.
“The better chance would be Game 3 being impacted, maybe even delayed or pushed off because of the rain,” Monahan said.

There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates on Tuesday morning, but volume is building, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
“So far a smooth start to the morning drive,” traffic reporter Heather Catlin said at 7 a.m.
Later Tuesday, the Traffic Center is expecting major delays around Truist Park as Braves fan flock to The Battery to watch Game 1 of the World Series. First pitch is scheduled around 8 p.m., when Monahan said Atlanta’s temperatures will still be in the mid-60s. He expects numbers to fall into the mid-50s by midnight.
“Lots of congestion around The Battery, really starting around 4 p.m. tonight,” Catlin said.
