North Georgia has nothing but sunshine and rising temperatures to look forward to the rest of this week.
After a few high clouds clear out Tuesday morning, sunshine will be the order of the day, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Highs in the mid-50s are predicted Tuesday, but even warmer weather is right around the corner, and Monahan said there is “not a drop of rain in the forecast.”
“You’ve got sunshine, you’ve got warmer temperatures — 60-degree high temperatures are in the forecast,” he said. “It looks really nice the rest of the week.”
Monahan expects the clouds to thin by midmorning, allowing temperatures to rise from a chilly start in the upper 30s into the low 50s by lunchtime. Later this afternoon, Atlanta is expected to reach a high of 55 degrees.
Wednesday will be the first day this week to hit the 60s, but it won’t be the last, Monahan said. Chilly mornings and “springlike” afternoons are in the forecast all the way through Saturday, which could see a high of 63 degrees. Highs are typically in the upper 50s this time of year.
“Our next chance for a little bit of rain, that’s not going to get here until Sunday, so in the meantime enjoy all the sunshine,” Monahan said. “We get about 8 to 10 hours of it between now and Friday ... and you’re going to have plenty of sunshine for the start of your weekend.”
There is only a slight chance for a couple of showers Sunday, he said. Rain chances are low at 20%, according to the latest forecast.

The weather is looking up, but the Tuesday morning drive is off to a busy start after a crash shut down I-85 near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
All northbound lanes were reopened at 6 a.m., but there are still delays through the area while traffic recovers, the Traffic Center reported. On the Northside, another crash was causing trouble for commuters out of Cumming.
A tractor-trailer overturned on the ramp from Peachtree Parkway to Ga. 400 South, and traffic reporter Mike Shields expects the crash will impact traffic on the freeway. The ramp is blocked in both directions at times, the Traffic Center reported.
