North Georgia can look forward to a brighter sky Tuesday for what should be the driest day of the week.
The clouds that blocked the sunshine Monday will make their way out Tuesday afternoon, but the region is starting the day a little gray. While there are no areas of widespread rain, a few drizzles are possible south of Atlanta this morning, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
They should not cause much trouble for the morning drive, he said. In fact, traffic should benefit from a low impact from rain all day, which can only help as more metro Atlanta school districts go back to school Tuesday.
Monahan is calling for a 30% chance of a scattered shower or storm this afternoon, which he said is “a typical early August pattern.”
“You get some sunshine in the morning, and you get the storms in the afternoon,” he said. “And that’s what we will see a little later today, but especially by tomorrow and Thursday.”
Monahan expects the sky to turn partly cloudy by 1 p.m. Tuesday. Most areas should stay dry for school dismissal, but rain chances increase by 5 p.m. as motorists head home from work, he said.
There could still be some rain around this evening when the Braves take on the Philadelphia Phillies at Truist Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
More rain is in the forecast for the middle of the week, according to Monahan. Rain chances increase to about 40%, but neither Wednesday nor Thursday will be washouts, he said. Temperatures should hold steady all week long.
“Low 90s today, low 90s through the week with scattered storms a maybe during the afternoons,” Monahan said.
