Scattered showers falling Thursday morning are expected to stick around through the afternoon, making for a cold, rainy day for North Georgia.
Rain is a near certainty Thursday, but it won’t be a washout, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. He expects periods of showers stretching into Thursday evening, and temperatures in the 50s and 60s all day.
“Grab the rain jacket headed outside this morning,” Monahan said. “It is wet in several spots. Most of this is light-to-moderate rain, but it is certainly gonna slow you down a bit this morning.”
Wind is also expected to pick up through the morning. While it could turn gusty at times, Monahan does not expect any severe weather with this system. The heaviest rain and the storm threat is passing well to the south, he said.
Monahan expects gusts up to 35 mph in northwest Georgia and in the mountains, where a wind advisory is in place until 6 p.m. The highest ridges could get gusts up to 45 mph, which Monahan said “could be enough to bring down some trees, (cause) some power outages.”
The projected high Thursday is just 64 degrees. Friday should be even cooler with a high of 58, according to Channel 2.
An upper level low to the west will trigger showers into Friday, Monahan said. There could be some rain around Friday night, when the Braves return home to Truist Park for Game 3 of the World Series.
“I don’t think were gonna see the game canceled or postponed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a rain delay or two,” Monahan said.
Temperatures in the low 50s on Friday night will be 20 degrees lower than in Houston. According to Channel 2, Friday’s game will be one of the coolest World Series games ever to be played in Atlanta.

Monahan expects temperatures to remain in the 50s from first pitch at 8:09 p.m. all the way into the late innings. He is calling for a 40% chance of rain at the start of the game and a 30% chance to end it. Humidity and a gusty wind blowing in from the outfield will also be factors.
“Make sure you bundle up if you’re heading out to the ballpark,” Monahan said.

With rain in the forecast all day, commuters can expect some extra delays for both the morning and evening drives, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Multiple crashes have been reported before 7 a.m., but there are no longstanding interstate closures.
The biggest backups are in DeKalb County, where a crash on I-20 East was blocking two left lanes at Wesley Chapel Road, the Traffic Center reported.
