Thursday afternoon will be both hot and stormy as North Georgia is firmly entrenched in a typical summertime weather pattern.

According to Channel 2 Action News, showers and storms are 40% likely Thursday, just like they were the day before. With a projected high of 91 degrees in Atlanta, the heat and humidity, as well as the chance of afternoon rain, should feel pretty familiar.

“We had some heavier downpours yesterday afternoon, and we should have a similar setup later today,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “After some sunshine, we’ll see the storms get started, and that weather pattern will continue into the weekend.”

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said North Georgia will be stuck in a typical summertime pattern of heat and afternoon storms the next couple of days.

Monahan is still expecting a good bit of sunshine Thursday, about nine hours worth. The best time to get outside is right before and after sunrise, he said. Morning temperatures are slightly lower than the day before, with Atlanta sitting at 71 degrees at 6:30 a.m.

North Georgia is starting the day partly cloudy but mostly dry, and eventually rain chances will increase after lunchtime.

“Pretty much the same story as we see most summertime days,” Monahan said. “We’ll see those tall clouds building. Some isolated storms initially, and scattered heavier downpours likely headed home from school, headed home from work later today.”

The same pattern repeats Friday, Saturday, Sunday and even into early next week, according to the latest forecast, with one variation on the theme. By the end of the weekend, high temperatures could drop back into the 80s.

Atlanta's projected high is 91 degrees Thursday with a 40% chance of an afternoon shower or storm.
