The wet weather greeting metro Atlanta on Monday morning is not any indication of the things to come this week.
Sunshine is in the forecast, but it will take a few hours to really get going Monday after a damp and foggy start, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. He expects a low impact from the drizzle this morning before the clouds clear and the sun comes out.
“Just some mist and drizzle out here this morning, and we’ll be dry at lunchtime,” Monahan said. “Dry through the rest of the day and, really, dry through the rest of the week for us as high pressure builds in and temperatures really start to build.”
By the end of the week, Atlanta is looking at a string of dry days with highs in the mid-70s, according to Channel 2. Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach the low 60s after a start in the 30s in the mountains and 40s in town.
“You’re going to want that heavier coat, that warm coat as you head on into work and get the kids ready for school this morning,” Monahan said.
He expects temperatures in the mid-50s by lunchtime as the clouds begin to clear. About seven hours of sunshine are in the forecast Monday, but Tuesday and Wednesday will see near total sunshine with 11 hours in the forecast both days.

Monahan said the start of March will “really feel like spring.” After a chilly start Tuesday in the 40s, temperatures will climb into the mid-60s, he said. Wednesday will be even warmer with a projected high of 71, and a high of 74 is in the forecast both Thursday and Friday.
On average, high temperatures are typically in the low 60s this time of year.

With fog and drizzle to contend with Monday morning, drivers in Cobb County are also dealing with crash-related delays on I-75. Authorities are working to put out a vehicle fire in the southbound lanes past Ga. 92, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Only the left shoulder was open at 6:30 a.m., and delays were building. Traffic reporter Mike Shields is encouraging commuters to take U.S. 41 to save several minutes stuck in the backups.
“Unfortunately not a good start to the morning if you are heading out the door on I-75 South in Acworth,” he said.
There are also delays on the Downtown Connector after authorities temporarily blocked all northbound lanes to clear a crash at Freedom Parkway, the Traffic Center reported.
