The first full week of 2023 couldn’t be more different from its predecessor, as far as metro Atlanta’s weather is concerned.
Compared to the frigid temperatures that accompanied the Christmas weekend heading to the end of 2022, the conditions at the beginning of this year will be nearly springlike, according to the latest forecast.
Temperatures are expected to be warm Monday, but will chill out near the end of the week as a cold front moves in, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.
As the first week of the new year begins, Atlantans will feel temperatures near 70 degrees. Monday will start off a bit chilly with temps in the high 40s and low 50s. However, by 10 a.m., temperatures will climb into the mid-60s, Deon said.
“We are going to notice a little more cloud cover in place throughout the day, but our rain chances stay on the low side,” she said.
That’ll change later in the week, when rain chances rocket to 80% on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We can’t rule out a passing light shower as we go into the evening hours (on Monday),” Deon said, “but the bulk of the rain arrives on Tuesday as a cold front moves in.”
Tuesday’s cold front will bring widespread rain that will be heavy at times, Deon said. There will also be the possibility of thunderstorms.
Temperatures will dip slightly for the rest of the week, with highs falling in the mid-50s through the weekend, Deon said.
Traffic shouldn’t be an issue for metro Atlantans on Monday, as many Georgians will still be easing into work after New Year’s. For MARTA riders, Monday’s trains will operate on a Saturday schedule for the observed New Year’s Day holiday.
