If you enjoyed the dry and warm conditions that dominated North Georgia weather this past weekend, you’re in luck.
Monday will be another day in the 80s without a rain cloud in sight, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. While there is a 60% chance of rain Tuesday, Monahan said it won’t be widespread and will move out by the afternoon.
“A little wet into Tuesday, and then it gets dry once again all the way into the end of the week,” he said. “Just that one little bump in the road with a bit of rain for tomorrow.”
Metro Atlanta is starting the week in the upper 50s. The city is headed for a projected high of 84 degrees this afternoon, which would be eight degrees above average and the highest temperature recorded so far this year. It feels a little more like summer, Monahan said.
Contributing to the summertime feel is the angle of the sun, which is as strong in late April as it is during mid-August, he said. With the sun positioned at 70 degrees above the horizon and very few clouds expected, the UV index is at 10 for Monday.
“You could easily catch a sunburn this time of year,” Monahan said. “Even though temperatures aren’t necessarily as hot like they are in the summertime, the sun is a summertime kind of sun.”
Rain to the west in the Mississippi River Valley will arrive late Monday and spread across the region during the overnight hours, he said. The clouds and showers will help cool things down a bit Tuesday, with a high of 73 degrees in the forecast.
“There’s going to be some light scattered showers,” Monahan said. “Not every neighborhood is going to see rain, so this is not going to be very widespread rain. By the weekend chance for a couple of showers will move back in.”
It will stay dry through Friday, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and morning lows in the 50s each day, according to the latest forecast.
