Metro Atlanta will get a taste of summertime this week with the first 90-degree highs of the season in the forecast.

Wednesday should be the first day the city will break into the 90s, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. It won’t be the earliest Atlanta has ever seen 90-degree highs, but it is ahead of schedule. Typically, that kind of heat holds off until after Memorial Day.

“Summertime is around the corner, and it’s going to feel like it this week,” Monahan said. Monday’s projected high is 86 degrees, he said, and some isolated storms are possible later this afternoon.

Monahan said the storms will be the result of a cold front sweeping through the region, but he doesn’t expect the system will bring much rainfall. Any storms that develop could be on the strong side, however.

“Do not let that stop you from outdoor plans today,” he said. “Yes, there’s a little rain in the forecast, but not everybody is going to see it. Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be dry, but the heat is going to build.”

Tuesday will get up to 88 degrees in Atlanta before the city records a high of 92 degrees Wednesday, according to the latest forecast. Thursday and Friday should also see highs in the 90s, with warm mornings in the forecast all the way through the work week.

Atlanta's projected high is 86 degrees Monday, with a 20% chance of an isolated storm.

Did you miss the total lunar eclipse Sunday night? You won’t have to wait long to see another one, Monahan said. The next total lunar eclipse will be Nov. 8. The next partial solar eclipse will be Oct. 14, 2023, according to forecasters.
