Three tractor-trailers jackknifed Friday morning in Union City in a crash that entangled multiple vehicles and backed up I-85 traffic for hours.

The crash was reported about 8:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes just past I-285, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Authorities shut down the lanes between I-285 and Flat Shoals Road for two hours while they investigated, finally allowing some traffic to pass at 10:30 a.m.

Severe delays remained for the rest of the morning, the Traffic Center reported.

No one was injured in the wreck, which also involved multiple passenger vehicles and a dump truck. The Union City Police Department is investigating, and a spokesperson said Friday morning it was too early to determine if anyone would be charged.

The Georgia State Patrol confirmed the Motor Carrier Compliance Division was asked to come to the scene for a commercial motor vehicle inspection. No details were released about the cause of the crash.
