Georgia State’s R.J. Hunter was named the Sun Belt Conference male student-athlete of the year for the second consecutive year on Monday.
He was one of three Panthers honored.
Teammate Ryann Green was named to the conference’s leadership team and soccer player Chris Locandro earned the male postgraduate scholar-athlete award.
Hunter led the Panthers to the third round of the NCAA tournament, including a 30-foot 3-pointer with less than three seconds remaining that beat Baylor in the second round. He declared for the NBA draft after the season and finished as Georgia State’s all-time leading scorer.
Green, a former walk-on from College Park, started 27 games as a senior.
Locandro, a native of Kennesaw, is a neuroscience and mathematics double major. He was a three-time all-conference player as a defender who started 55 games and played almost 5,000 minutes.
