The Atlanta Falcons release running back Steven Jackson after two disappointing seasons last month.

In a PSA video (above), the free agent takes up the plight of the running back, asking NFL fans to reach out to their favorite team and help them recognize the importance of the position.

Because not everyone is Walter Payton.

In his plea, Jackson urges everyone to write to teams. He even makes it easy by including a form letter on his his new web site, which starts:

I am writing you on behalf of SaveTheRunningBack.org, an organization founded by Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson, to express my dissatisfaction with the way that running backs are being treated in professional football today.

It all sounds pretty serious, but this is a tongue-and-cheek way for Steven Jackson to sell apparel and raise funds for his foundation.

Hey, man’s gotta eat.
