An approaching weather system should push temperatures into the upper 70s on Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls.

Sunshine broke through the clouds Sunday morning as temperatures rose to the 70s throughout metro Atlanta. They are expected to continue rising during the afternoon.

Isolated showers were possible in the morning in North Georgia but they mostly cleared away by noon.

“The clouds have now given way to mostly sunny skies,” Walls said. “This afternoon will be nice and quiet radar-wise.”

By Monday and Tuesday, there will be highs in the lower 80s, the warm surge ahead of a cold front.

The annual Atlanta Pride Festival means some traffic delays near Midtown. And the Falcons game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium should also cause some congestion near the stadium.

The weather, however, was nice enough for the roof at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to be open during the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
