It’s hard to believe Atlantans woke up to temperatures in the mid-60s Wednesday. Those days are long gone.

For the second day in a row, metro Atlanta saw near-freezing temperatures as they got up on Saturday.

As a result, many North Georgia counties, including Cobb, Douglas, Fayette and Fulton, were under a freeze warning until 10 a.m.

The good news is that’s behind us now and the city is warming up pretty quickly. Temperatures are expected to reach about 60 degrees this afternoon and there’s no rain in sight.

That makes it a nice afternoon to take in North Georgia’s fall colors, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Glenn Burns. The Atlanta area’s peak fall leaf color is usually in late October, but the hottest September ever recorded pushed back that timeline to this week, he said.

For many Georgians, though, the only two colors that matter today are red and orange as the University of Georgia heads to Jacksonville to take on Florida in the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party at 3:30 p.m.

Those at the game should expect temperatures in the upper 60s as well as a 20% chance of a popup shower, according to Florida weather forecasts.

Thirty minutes after that game kicks off, Georgia Tech hosts Pittsburgh at Bobby Dodd Stadium. At 2 p.m., Kennesaw State will host Monmouth. Traffic should pick up in downtown Atlanta and Kennesaw before both games begin.

Sunday’s forecast is nearly identical to Saturday’s, with a high of 60 degrees and no rain. The dry streak should continue into the work week while temperatures climb to the upper 60s and eventually 70 degrees on Wednesday.

No matter what, remember that daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so prepare to adjust your clocks — and enjoy an extra hour of sleep.
