The wetter-than-usual summer weather should continue Saturday in and around metro Atlanta, with the rainfall expected to begin in late afternoon.

Get ready for “slow-moving downpours, some of those could be strong storms,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The storms could bring wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph and even some hail, Monahan said.

It has been that kind of year. Records show that more than 32 inches of rain has fallen in the area in 2017, about 8 inches more than the same period in 2016, Channel 2 reported.

“After last year’s dry weather, that has been the story of our summer,” Monahan said.

Saturday’s high is expected to hit 90 degrees, and the temperature should reach 88 Sunday. However, the chance of rain will drop to 40 percent Sunday and Monday.

About 5:15 p.m., temps were at 90 in Atlanta, 91 in Griffin and 72 in Blairsville.
