Forget spring. It’s starting to feel like summer.

But with those 80-degree temperatures comes other concerns, like smog.

A Code Orange smog alert has been issued for Thursday, according to Channel 2 Action News Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns.

“We’re now in smog season,” Burns said. “If you’re sensitive to ozone, you might want to keep the kids inside, or yourself if you’re sensitive to it, during the peak heating hours.”

After Atlanta hit a high of 82 degrees Wednesday, the warming trend is expected to continue through the week. The forecast high is 84 Thursday and Friday, according to Channel 2. LaGrange and Rome could even hit 86 Thursday.

After a low of 61 Thursday morning, look for a quick warmup to 77 by noon, Channel 2 reported. Temps are expected to hit 84 by 5 p.m. and still be in the low 70s at 11 p.m.

“Looks like the next few days we’re going to see highs well above our average,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Currently, it’s 80 degrees.

Despite the high temps, the pollen count has remained in the moderate range, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma. Wednesday’s pollen count was 88 particles per cubic meter of air, down from 103 on Tuesday.

“The reason the pollen count is falling is because we’re getting past the peak of the season,” Nitz said.

Warm temps should stay through the weekend, when there is a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday (expected high of 81) and a 20 percent  chance Sunday (high of 79).

“It will be beautiful,” said Burns, who added that the greatest chance of weekend showers is in far northwest Georgia.
