After starting off the week with heavy downpours and gusty winds from Tropical Storm Irma, metro Atlanta enjoyed a return to summer conditions Friday.
Temperatures hit the 80s “for the first time in several days,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
The high reached 83 in Atlanta, and even hit 88 in LaGrange. About 8:20 p.m., the temperature was at 81 in Atlanta.
“We hope you didn't put away your summer clothes just yet,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “This weekend is going to be very warm.”
Expected highs are 84 Saturday and 85 Sunday, followed by 86 Monday and even reaching 87 Wednesday.
Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said to expect above-average temps the rest of September.
It’s partly cloudy now, with just a slight chance of a shower Friday night during high school football games around the metro area.
“You can’t rule out a brief sprinkle or two,” Burns said.
Your Saturday wakeup weather in Atlanta will feature a low of 66 and partly cloudy skies until around noon, Burns said. He added to expect patchy fog in the North Georgia mountains.
There’s a 10 percent chance of isolated showers Saturday, but “nothing to ruin your outdoor plans,” Burns said.
