ATLANTA FORECAST
Today: Showers and windy. High: 56
Tonight: Clear. Low: 52
Tomorrow: Sunny and windy. High: 48
It’s sunny, windy and getting colder in metro Atlanta heading into Thursday night.
But that’s nothing compared to the downpours, gusty winds and even a tornado in northeast Georgia that led to road blocks, crashes and outages reported earlier.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down Thursday morning in Jackson County.
During the storm, homes were damaged, trees were down and roads were blocked.
Jackson County is about 70 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
More than seven hours after the heaviest showers, Georgia Power still reported 178 outages affecting more than 5,700 customers.

The metro area didn’t feel such harsh effects.
The cold front that came through this morning is now almost completely gone, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
A wind advisory for the North Georgia mountains has been extended until 1 p.m. Friday, Nitz said.
About two-thirds of an inch of rain fell Thursday, Nitz said.
The next chance of showers is New Year's Eve. But the more substantial rain possibility is New Year’s Day, with a 90 percent chance.
Overnight, temperatures are expected to be in the 30s and, with the wind chill, it’s expected to feel like temperatures are in the teens in the mountains on Friday.
Temperatures were 53 degrees in Atlanta, 46 in Blairsville and 54 in Griffin about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Lows are expected to dip to freezing Friday and only rebound to the 40s Sunday.
Highs are forecast to reach 48 degrees Friday, 52 Saturday and 54 Sunday.
