Did you feel the magnitude 2.5 earthquake?

A magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck an area about 100 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta late Wednesday, officials said.

Just after 9:30 p.m., the U.S. Geological Survey detected the quake about 3.7 miles southwest of Sparta.

Someone in Cumming reported feeling the quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Dozens more in Eatonton, Milledgeville and other cities said they also felt the quake, described by National Weather Service meteorologist Lauren Merritt as “pretty weak.”

Merritt said she would be surprised if the earthquake caused any damage.

The earthquake occurred on the same day several rounds of severe weather caused power outages, flooding and other damages in metro Atlanta and other parts of North Georgia.
