You can hover but you probably can't fly with that board

If you’re planning to fly somewhere with a new hoverboard, you will want to ask if you can pack it or carry it, because most airlines have banned the devices.

Blame the bans on the lithium batteries that power the hoverboards and that have been blamed for fires.

Actor Russell Crowe found that out when he and his family were not allowed to carry their overboards aboard a Virgin Australia Airlines flight. He vowed to never fly the airline again and launched a string of angry tweets complaining about the ban.

Most airlines now ban the devices because the lithium batteries pose a potential fire hazard.

Some airlines do allow transport if the board’s lithium batteries are small enough.

Details on major airlines in the United States are here.
