If you want to show off your vacation plans to friends on social media, it might be wise to avoid pictures of your flight ticket.

Taking a picture of your boarding pass could put you at risk for exposing personal information, the Huffington Post reports.

According to a blog from security expert Brian Krebs, airplane boarding passes contains a barcode that "may allow someone to discover more about you, your future travel plans, and your frequent flyer account," Krebs states in his blog.

Krebs explains that there is a barcode scanning website which allows hackers to easily access flyer account information — and even reset the account PIN number. Besides the person's name, travel plans and frequent flyer number, hackers can also change a traveler's itinerary — such as changing flight seats or cancelling future flights.

“The next time you’re thinking of throwing away a used boarding pass with a barcode on it, consider tossing the boarding pass into a document shredder instead,” Krebs states.
