I've uncovered a tremendous airfare offer today that's valid on summer trips to central Europe for under $1,000!

The today-only offer comes from USAirways to Zurich, Switzerland. The carrier has made available a round-trip rate of $414 on departures started on or after May 14 and through Aug. 20. Round-trip rates rise slightly to $434 on Aug. 21 to Oct. 29 departures.

Trips are permitted any available day of the week. Travelers must stay a Saturday night and no longer than one month.

USAirways serves Zurich with one flight connection in Philadelphia. One free stopover is permitted.

Total ticket prices are $951.30, inclusive of all surcharges, taxes and fees. Compare this sale rate to Delta's round-trip price to Zurich throughout the summer of $1,871.30.

Act fast. This offer has no ticket-by date.

Sale airfares are always subject to change. Every seat on every flight is not offered at the lowest rate. Since only a limited supply of seats is available, act quickly to make your purchase. I recommend starting the search for available seats at Kayak.com vs. calling an airline directly. You can also search for the sale at travel Web sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, etc. Airlines can discontinue or pull a sale price without notice when the offer is deemed "sold out,"or when that rate does not have a "ticket-by" date.

Why Zurich? Forget that this city is simply a big, expensive banking town. Consider Zurich one of Europe's little secrets now. This diverse city on lovely Lake Zurich offers a grand mix of city center green spaces, over 50 museums, more than 100 galleris, nonstop shopping and the country's hottest nightlife. Or, chill out in the summer in the village of Grindelwald of the Jungfrau Region. This stunning alpine region is just under three hours from Zurich and offers a wealth of activities for all ages and abilities.

It's central Europe location makes it easy to reach other popular destinations by rail (descend down the airport escalators to board the Eurail system) or by rental car (one of Europe's least expensive pick-up spots).
