Bank of America has expanded its "Museums on Us" program, which gives free museum admission on the first full weekend of the month to anyone who holds a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch debit or credit card. The offer now permits entry into 150 museums and cultural institutions in 87 cities in 29 states.

If you're seeking an escape on Super Bowl Sunday, you're in luck. The next free museum weekend is upon us -- Feb. 5-6 (the game doesn't start until 6:30 p.m.).

Other free weekends are March 5-6, April 2-3, May 7-8, June 4-5, July 2-3, Aug. 6-7, Sept. 3-4, Oct. 1-2, Nov. 5-6, and Dec. 3-4.

New museums and cultural centers include the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque and the SITE Santa Fe, the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio and additional museums in Bridgeport, Conn., Savannah, Ga., Raleigh-Durham, N.C., Pittsburgh, Pa., Memphis, Tenn., and Williamsburg, Va.

Other classic museums include:

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
  • Art Institute of Chicago
  • NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.
  • The Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, Calif.
  • MUZEO, Los Angeles
  • National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
  • Atlanta History Museum and the High Museum of Art

Visitors must present a photo ID along with the appropriate debit or credit card. The free admission is not valid for special exhibitions, fundraising events or ticketed shows.
