Mandi Albright has worked at the AJC, her hometown paper, since 2000. She currently works with the Digital Presentation team, focusing on the Atlanta Now and Crime/Public Safety teams, along with Local Government, Education and Health. Mandi also writes the Journal-Constitution's Deja News feature. An Atlanta native, she graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in English but loves local, state and Southern history and is happiest when traipsing through the AJC's photo and print archives.

Westbound traffic on I-20 approach the plume of smoke rising from BioLab that continued on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 in Conyers. A Sunday fire at the chemical plant in Conyers has had agencies monitoring the air quality since then as crews try to neutralize the site. Rockdale County officials said that the plume is changing colors as workers remove debris. GEMA has advised anyone who notices a chlorine odor in the air to limit their time outdoors.
