Bennett's first full-time journalism job was as a summer intern at The Atlanta Journal in 1982. He comes full circle as the AJC's Senior Editor/Weekends -- more than 40 years later. Bennett has worked at The Journal Record in Oklahoma City, the Anniston Star in Alabama and the Columbia Daily Herald in Tennessee as editor in chief. He worked the first half of his career in sports, including as sports editor of The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson and as assistant sports editor of The Arizona Republic in Phoenix. He was sports editor of the Marietta Daily Journal after graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1984. He was born in Culver City, Calif., but claims Cookeville, Tenn., as his hometown. His mother originally was from Detroit, and he grew up as a Detroit Tigers fan. Bennett and his wife, Liz, enjoy traveling, outlet shopping, karaoke, watching sports and movies, going to church and keeping up with her family in the Philippines. Bennett has one son, living in Tennessee, and one daughter, living in Arizona.
