The U.S. women’s national soccer team will host Russia at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Georgia Dome.

The women’s team defeated China 2-1 in Kennesaw in 2010, but this will be the first appearance in Atlanta for either the U.S. men’s or women’s teams since the men defeated China 1-0 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium on Oct. 10, 1977.

This will be the first of two international soccer events at the Dome in as many months. Two teams participating later this year in the men’s World Cup, Mexico and Nigeria, will play in an exhibition game March 5.

The U.S. women, the top team in FIFA’s world rankings, are 5-0-1 against Russia, which is ranked No. 21. The two teams will also meet Feb. 8 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Tickets for the game at the Dome will go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 and can be purchased at ussoccer.com, by phone at 800-745-3000 or at Ticketmaster outlets.

No decision has been made as to whether grass will be placed on the Dome’s playing surface, as was done for previous matches at the venue — and will be done for the Mexico-Nigeria match.
