ATLANTA -- It was dubbed as the greatest season opener in college football history, and for the most part the game lived up to the hype.
No. 3 Florida State and No. 1 Alabama participated in what felt like a heavyweight fight. Two solid teams, who mirrored each other in so many ways and went toe-to-toe for much of the evening.
In the end, Alabama’s defense was too much and the Crimson Tide made three big plays on special teams to beat the Seminoles 24-7.
The much bigger loss for Florida State occured with 6:25 left in the game. Quarterback Deondre Francois was sacked from behind and laid on the ground clutching his left knee for several minutes before he was helped off the field by trainers.
