Venezuela defeated the Dominican Republic 3-2 in the Little League World Series on Monday night. The win came on a two-run, walk-off triple from Omar Romero.
Dominican pitcher Edward Uceta, who’d dominated much of the tournament, fell to the ground crying after allowing the game-ending hit on just his second pitch following a rain delay. He was immediately comforted by Venezuelan players and coaches, even receiving hugs in the postgame lineup.
"Edward has a big heart," said Venezuela manager Alexander Ballesteros after the game. "It could have happened to anyone."
Sometimes it’s more important than the game. Monday night was the perfect illustration of such.
Venezuela faces Mexico on Tuesday in an elimination game.
